That's right! The Fatback Collective, a team of chefs, friends and pitmasters spent the last week at the world famous Memphis in May BBQ challenge. The festival, which has been held every May in Memphis, TN for the past XX years, plays host to teams from all over the world who bring their BBQ rigs, tent decorations, and even the odd ice luge to party and compete in the competition. Some of the teams have been traveling to this contest for many years to pit their BBQ (pun intended) against each other in a good spirit of competition. Even though it is very rare for a rookie team to place in the finals, not only did the Fatback Collective make it to finals, they took home the 3rd place trophy!
The Fatback Collective consists of Nick Pihakis, of Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, Rodney Scott, pitmaster at Scott's Bar-B-Q, Hemingway, SC, Patrick Martin, pitmaster at Martin's Bar-B-Q Joint, Nolensville, TN, Sam Jones, of Skylight Inn BBQ, Ayden, NC, Drew Robinson, Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, Nicholas Pihakis, Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, Donald Link, Herbsaint Restaurant, New Orleans, LA, Ryan Prewitt, Herbsaint Restaurat, New Orleans, LA, Steven Stryjewski, Cochon, New Orleans, LA, Sean Brock, Husk, Charleston, SC, John Currence, City Grocery, Oxford, MS, John T.
